I guess you could say our house is essentially L-shaped. So, we have a long hallway that leads from the front door, past the dining and game rooms, back to the kitchen and family room. And we have wood floors in the hallways (and dining room). This makes a perfect place for running and sliding, indoor soccer, and monkey in the middle. The kids definitely make great use of it. Sunday evening, just when it was time to start settling down after dinner, they went a bit wild and started playing in the hall. Yep, Monkey in the Middle. Only the dogs had to get involved and try to catch the "monkey" (a stuffed whale). It made for an interesting and loud evening.
